Cock Tavern Theatre, 125 Kilburn High Rd, London, NW6 6JH January - April 2010 OperaUpClose transports Puccini’s masterpiece of young love and loss from 1830s Bohemian Paris to the gritty realism of vibrant modern-day North London.
Robin Norton-Hale directs an intimate staging with a young cast and chorus; piano accompaniment is provided by Andrew Charity.

Stephen Hose, pianoAn intriguing evening of errors, mistaken identities, jinxes and love combining the unlucky superstitions surrounding Friday the 13th with the joys, hopes and romance of Valentine’s day, which this year is on the following day, Saturday February 14th.Music consists of excerpts from Handel’s Hercules, Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro and Rodrigo’s El Hijo Finjidotogether with pieces by three masters of zarsuela, F M Torroba, A Vives and R Chapi. The singers are soprano Belinda Evans (Finalist in the BBC’s How do you solve a Problem like Maria?) Baritone Loic Guguen (A Glyndebourne Festival favourite) and dramatic mezzo-soprano Scheherazade Pesante whose previous roles include Carmen, Tosca and as
the soloist in Manuel De Falla’s El Amor Brujo (which she also directed).This will be a delightfully different event with lovely music and there will also be a narrator to enhance the experience.
